Duke of Wellington
Meet the Duke of Wellington. He was acquired by The National Gallery, London in 1961.
Happy days... until 19 days later when he was stolen by a bus driver with a Robin Hood agenda. Brilliantly, the painting made a cameo appearance (not long after its disappearance) in the Bond classic, Dr No. Sean Connery does a double-take as he spots the artwork in the villains lair. The Duke was eventually returned in 1965, via a ubiquitous Left Luggage locker at a Birmingham train station.
